The Doctoral Consortium will help doctoral students develop an effective career plan that is based on both personal and professional goals. The consortium will be organized around teaching, research, and job search strategies. It will accomplish three primary objectives: 1) provide networking opportunities for students with peers and faculty, 2) help ready student research for publication, and, 3) prepare doctoral students for the job market.

We anticipate a group of students and 10-12 faculty (not including the two Co-Chairs) to take part in this exciting event. The program will include three faculty panels on the challenges associated with managing 1) teaching responsibilities, 2) a research stream, and 3) the job search. A breakout session will follow each panel speech whereby five students will be assigned to 1-2 faculty members to engage in discussion about the panel speech topic. The intent would be for each student to apply the panel speech topic to their own personal and professional goals, with help from the faculty lead and peers. Groups will be assigned by topical area or common teaching/research interests. The day will end with a wrap-up discussion of how lessons from the day can be applied to achieving an effective work-life balance.
