Blue Ocean IS Research

AMCIS is a preeminent research conference in the information systems discipline conducted under the auspices of AIS.  Each year, AMCIS attracts up to a thousand or more attendees principally from North America but increasingly from other regions of the world as well.  The conference program includes research paper presentations, research panels, keynotes, CIO panels, doctoral consortiums, and camps for junior IS faculty.

Puerto Rico
offers many historical and cultural attractions along with excellent outdoor activities and
outstanding shopping venues. This is due, in part, to Puerto Rico’s dynamic culture that is molded by Spanish, African, Indian and U.S. influences. Puerto Rico is where the easygoing Caribbean collides with the slick efficiency of modern America over syncopated Latin rhythms and rose-tinted tropical sunsets. The result is a colorful, diverse and culturally unique, cosmopolitan island.  The social event will feature the wonderful food and music of the region, and there will be opportunities to explore the island’s attractions.

Dr. Michael Karasick, Vice President Innovations for IBM Watson Group, will be the keynote speaker. He oversees the Research and Development of technologies and products for Watson, including Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Discovery and Analytics. Karasick has published numerous papers in software engineering, geometric modeling, programming languages and pervasive computing. He is a member of ACM and IEEE.

We will meet at the The El Conquistador Resort and Convention Center.  The El Conquistador is located on east side of the island, and is surrounded by natural rainforests and ocean vistas which will provide wonderful views of the tropical paradise that is known as la isla del encanto (“the island of enchantment” in English). It also offers guest access to a private island. The resort will host all meetings and events.

The theme of AMCIS 2015 is Blue Ocean Research, which fits Puerto Rico’s location in the blue Caribbean. Blue Ocean Research means creating and exploring new and uncontested areas, rather than competing fiercely with others in existing areas. We will maintain the traditional tracks and mini-tracks that have made AMCIS a great home for many Special Interest Groups, but our goal is to spur you to venture out into the unknown – to explore unconventional areas that offer new vistas. We hope you will join us in Puerto Rico for AMCIS 2015!
